How To Tell Your Mother You Love Her

 And Know Why

Mother’s Day ~ How It Came About… In the United States, on the second Sunday in May Mother’s Day ~ How It Came About is our annual holiday celebrated by recognizing our mothers,

How To Tell Your Mother You Love Her And Know Why
Happy Mother’s Day

Including motherhood and maternal bonds in general, as well the positive contributions that they make to society.

Woman’s peace groups were the first to start Mother’s Day.  The groups were Mothers who sons had died in the American Civil War from both sides. These groups had their celebration of Mother’s Day during the 1870’ and the 1880’s. Unfortunately, none of these celebrations had any National support they were only observed at the local level.

“Mother’s Friendship Day” was started in 1868 by Ann Jarvis. This day was to unite families and friends divided over the war. Ann Jarvis died in 1905 before the celebration became popular and the gauntlet was carried on by her daughter Anna Jarvis. In New York. On June 2, 1872 there was a Mother’s Day anti-war rally led by Julia Ward Howe. The rally ended with a Mother’s Day Proclamation.

The War Continues

This anti-war rally continued for another 10 years in Boston and then died out. Then on May 13, 1877 in Albion, Michigan there was another Mother’s Day observance and the difference revolved around the temperance movement. “According to local legend, Albion pioneer Juliet Calhoun Blakeley stepped up to complete the sermon of the Rev. Myron Daugherty who was distraught because an anti-temperance group had forced his son and two other temperance works to spend the night in a saloon and become publicly drunk.

From the pulpit Blakeley called on other mothers to join her. Juliet Calhoun Blakeley’s two sons were both traveling salesmen. They were so moved of their Mother they vowed to return each year to pay tribute to her. Both started on a campaign to urge their business contacts to do likewise. At their urging, in the early 1880’s, the Methodist Episcopal Church in Albion set aside the second Sunday in May to recognize the special contributions of mothers.”

The First Public Plea

The first public plea for a national day Americans could celebrate their Mothers made by Frank E. Hering who at the time was the President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.  The year was 1904. Anna Jarvis in 1905 began campaigning to set up a Mother’s Day first as a national holiday and then the rest of the world. In 1910 West Virginia officially declared Mother’s Day as a legal holiday.

Many State followed West Virginia’s lead and in 1914 on May 8th the U.S. Congress passed a law. It designated that the second Sunday in May was to be known as Mother’s Day.  The following day President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation declaring everyone should fly the American flag in honor of these Mothers who sons had died in the war. In 1934 FDR approve a postal stamp commemorating Mother’s Day.

Tips To Sell Quickly

Tips To Sell Quickly

Selling a home can be a challenging process, and homeowners often want to sell their homes as quickly as possible. In today’s competitive real estate market, it’s important to understand what buyers are looking for and how to make your home stand out. Here are some tips that homeowners need to know to sell their homes quickly:

1. Price your home competitively:

The first thing that homeowners need to do is price their home competitively. This means doing your research to determine the fair market value of your home and setting a price that is attractive to buyers. Overpricing your home can turn off potential buyers and make it harder to sell, while pricing it too low can make buyers suspicious and cause them to question the value of your home.

2. Make necessary repairs:

Before putting your home on the market, it’s important to make any necessary repairs. Buyers want a home that is move-in ready, and they don’t want to spend a lot of time and money fixing things up after they move in. Simple repairs like fixing leaky faucets, replacing broken tiles, and repainting walls can make a big difference in how your home is perceived.

3. Stage your home:

Staging your home is a great way to make it more attractive to buyers. This involves decluttering your home, rearranging furniture, and adding decorative touches to make your home look more inviting. You can either hire a professional stager or do it yourself with the help of online resources.

4. Maximize curb appeal:

The first impression that buyers have of your home is its curb appeal. This means making sure that your home looks good from the street. This can be as simple as mowing the lawn, trimming the hedges, and adding a fresh coat of paint to the front door.

5. Use high-quality photos and videos:

In today’s digital age, buyers often begin their search for a home online. This means that high-quality photos and videos are essential to making your home stand out. Consider hiring a professional photographer or videographer to showcase your home in the best possible light.

6. Be flexible with showings:

When selling your home, it’s important to be flexible with showings. This means being willing to accommodate potential buyers even if it’s inconvenient for you. Remember, the more showings you have, the more likely you are to find a buyer quickly.

7. Work with a reputable agent:

Finally, it’s important to work with a reputable agent who has experience selling homes in your area. A good agent can help you price your home correctly, market it effectively, and negotiate with buyers on your behalf.

In addition to these tips, there are a few other things that homeowners should keep in mind when selling their homes. First, be prepared to negotiate. Buyers will often make lowball offers, so it’s important to be prepared to counteroffer and negotiate a fair price. Second, be patient. Selling a home can take time, and it’s important to be patient and not get discouraged if your home doesn’t sell right away. Finally, be willing to make concessions. Sometimes, buyers will request repairs or other concessions as part of the sale. It’s important to be willing to work with buyers to come to an agreement that works for everyone.

In conclusion,

selling a home can be a challenging process, but there are things that homeowners can do to make it easier. By pricing your home competitively, making necessary repairs, staging your home, maximizing curb appeal, using high-quality photos and videos, being flexible with showings, and working with a reputable agent, you can increase your chances of selling your home quickly. Remember to be patient, be prepared to negotiate, and be willing to make concessions. With these tips in mind, you’ll be well on your way to selling your home quickly

Why Do Rabbits Bring Easter Eggs?

Posted on: April 5th, 2023 | By Cliff Keith | Holidays | No Comments

Why Do Rabbits

Bring Easter Eggs?

Easter is close at hand and the celebration start today on Good Friday.  On Sunday Christians will be celebrating Easter. It’s the day Christians believe their Lord and Savor, Jesus Christ rose from the dead into heaven.

Christians will celebrate the day by going to church/mass dressed up in their Sunday finest. It spring time and the time for renewal of nature. With Easter here I have often wondered why in the world does a rabbit bring Easter eggs?  A rabbit doesn’t produce eggs, nor do they eat eggs so what’s the deal with the bunny rabbit delivering eggs for all the children? Don’t you agree?

Why Do Rabbits Bring Easter Eggs?

Research on Rabbits

When I started to do my research on the subject I thought a simple Google search would show me the solution.  I didn’t realize I was opening a can of worms!  This is pretty serious stuff the rabbit and these Easter eggs. What I found out it is strictly a religious matter. Because of differences fought between Pagans and Christians.  The Pagans believe in the Anglo-Saxon goddess, Eostre, and of course the Christian didn’t. The Christians believed in Jesus Christ. Therefore, there is no answer except for it depending on your own personal beliefs.

Who was Eostre?

Eostre was a Pagan Goddess whose symbols were the rabbit and the egg.  First of all in pagan religion, both the egg and the bunny are symbols of fertility. In the pagan religion, Easter was the “spring festival”. It was time for celebrating fertility and requesting of the Gods that they would give good crops. On the other hand some believe that the only connection to Eostre and Easter is that they are both issues spoken in English.

For example

As a result, people like Catherine Beyer, believe in that the Romantic languages, the word for Easter is based on Pesach, the Hebrew word for Passover, which Jesus was celebrating at the time of his execution. And that is all Easter is about according to Catherine Beyer.  They say, to bring anything else into the picture referring to something like eggs and rabbits is just not worthy of discussion.

In conclusion:

Why Do Rabbits Bring Easter Eggs?
Bunny

From a historical standpoint all I can say is that the answer to the age-old question about why we have Easter egg hunts. Furthermore, we see little bunnies everywhere hence it is for you to decide for yourself.  I know what is in my heart.

Do, you know now Why Do Rabbits Bring Easter Eggs? I am going to go look for some See’s Candies chocolate eggs. Those are the eggs I enjoy most

 Happy Easter

Redwood City, CA: Every Memorial Day the Archives Committee and the Redwood City Library celebrate memories of Redwood City pioneers and soldiers. Better known as their Memorial Day ceremony at Union Cemetery. It is their annual Memorial Day event held on Woodside Road (CA 84) near El Camino Real in Redwood City. The celebration is every Memorial Day and starts at 10:00 AM.

Who Are The Archives and the Union Cemetery Committees?

The Archives Committee and the Union Cemetery Committee have worked on this celebration for many years. They are continuously trying to make it an experience enjoyable for all. Their efforts over the years was mainly cleaning and clearing debris until the early 1970’s.

In the 1970’s Union Cemetery condition got worse. For example. there was a need for repairs to the stone markers on graves, damages to the burial crypts, and the fencing. It didn’t stop there as there was a need to rebuild broken fixtures like the windmill and the bronze Union Soldier Statue.

The Committee worked with anyone who offered their help. This included Redwood City’s commissions and committees. The Historical Resources Advisory Committee, (HRAC) were one of them. Additionally, the City Council came to the table with their funding.

The cemetery was named a California Historical Landmark #816 in 1967, then added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.[4]

In other words, many concerned residents helped. They improved the landscaping, installed lighting, and assisted with on going patrolled security. It was the combined efforts of residences who wanted to preserve Redwood City history for future generations.

The straw that broke the camel’s back

In the 1970’s Union Cemetery was a favorite site for vandals. There was extensive damage to most grave sites. Vandalism to the cemetery ran rampant. Usually around Halloween people entered into the cemetery and perform some “witch-craft rituals”. Vandals preformed grave etchings, they built fires and performed satanic rituals on make-shift alters. Damage to the gravesides was not uncommon. The grounds became an embarrassment to the whole community.

What damage was done?

Stopping the ongoing damage became top priority of concerned citizens. These citizens took it upon themselves to reclaim Union Cemetery. The desire was to return the Union Cemetery to its original state.  First, they removed the bronze Union Soldier Statue. The Committee relocated it to a safe location. They hired, and paid for, cleanup and security of the Cemetery including repairs and restoration of the Union Solider Statue.

The concerned citizens took it upon themselves to repaired damaged grave sites. They fixed broken wooden crosses, head stones, and metal fencing. They found opened concrete burial crypts too. Those crypts were re-sealed and secured.

Everyone helped

Memorial Day at Historical Union Cemetery in Redwood City, CA c.1859The Archives Committee and the Union Cemetery Committee brought in the City Arborist for his expert advice. There was a need to grade and inspect all the trees. Including in his findings was a plan to protect the Victorian Roses in the Cemetery.

The Archives Committee’s commitment to the preservation of Union Cementer caused many residents to see what the Archives Committee had done and what a great job they did to restore our history. Their work created a sense of community pride.

The Redwood City Council was instrumental in their support of the Union Cemetery through their funding. Their ongoing resources, support and encouragement lessen the burden for this large and much needed project. The City Council along with various Commissions and Committees were forth coming with their support too.

Home Sellers: What To Do Prior To A Home Inspection?

Home Sellers In Redwood City: What To Do Prior To A Home Inspection?

Home Sellers: What To Do Prior To A Home Inspection?
Check list to follow

If you have arranged to have your home inspected, you should plan to go with the inspector during the entire process. This information will help you when you are looking at an offer to buy your home. If it is a buyer initiated inspection, it would be preferable if you were not present. Being  notified before had is important for any inspection. The real estate agent will schedule the inspection for a time convenient to both you and the buyer. This is to allow you enough time to make preparations for this important day.

Do you know the systems of a home

Home Sellers: What To Do Prior To A Home Inspection?
Do you know the systems of a home

Whether you, as the seller, or by the buyer, have arranged the home inspection you can take several preparatory steps, which will benefit you and help the inspection process:

Make sure the inspector can get access to all areas of the house.

Clear all furniture, boxes, clothes, toys and other personal items that may block access to the furnace, water heater, electrical panels, attic crawl spaces, etc. Inspectors will not enter inaccessible areas.

If access to your attic crawl space is  in a closet, remove clothing, shoes, and other items. Not only might they be in the way, but when opening the hatch door, debris (dust, insulation, loose plaster) is likely to fall from the ceiling upon items left in the closet.

If you are expecting a visit from an inspector and prospective buyer:

  • Ensure that filters are clear in air conditioners, heaters, vents, drains, etc.
  • Clearing areas under sinks makes for a thorough  inspected.
  • Have the house cleaned thoroughly.

The fewer problems an inspector finds with the property, the better overall image the property presents to the prospective buyer. Obviously, it is to your advantage if the buyer hears the inspector saying, “Everything on this property is right except for a couple little issues here and there,” and not hearing a long list of concerns.

Additional notes to home sellers

The home inspector may override your timers or reset clocks if outlets (such as appliance clocks, outdoor lighting etc.). You should check them after the inspection to make sure they are reset properly.

Remember to allow two to three hours for the home inspection.
