What to Look For On the Outside

¨      Roof and gutters:  When buyers look at your house from their car, about 30 percent of what they see is your roof.  Be certain it’s in good repair.

¨      Landscaping:  A well-manicured yard and a smooth, even driveway reassure potential buyers that you care about your property.  A yard free of mud and weeds suggests a good sprinkler system and low maintenance.

¨      Paint and siding:  Neutral colors and a clean appearance are important.  Consider repainting or power-washing both your house and roof.

¨      Porch or covered patio:  Make sure it’s clean and uncluttered.

¨      Fence:  Make sure material and gates are in good repair.

What to Look For On the Inside

¨      Kitchen:  Regardless of your kitchen size, you can make it feel spacious:  Remove appliances and gadgets from your counter tops and store them.  Repair broken or cracked counters.

¨      Bathrooms:  Replace faucets, medicine cabinet, and towel racks if necessary; be certain the bathrooms are spotless and fresh-smelling.

¨      Flooring:  An investment in new carpeting almost always increases the perceived value of a home.  Select a neutral color of medium-grade carpeting and padding.  Replace cracked and broken tiles.

¨      Wall covering:  A fresh coat of paint can do wonders.  Always use neutral or soft, warm colors.  Avoid wallpaper.

¨      Personal touches:  Eclectic personal touches may distract potential buyers.

Happy Birthday America, July 4, 1776

Why do you say Happy Birthday to America? First of all, America was born on July 4, 1776. Accomplished once the Declaration of Independence was signed. They were the leader of the American colonies of King George III American traditions allows and avenue for most people to join this annual celebration on the 4th of July. A newcomer to America on the 4th of July will see in town across the country; parades, carnivals, and BBQ’s. Found cooking on grills across America on the 4th of July you will find hamburgers and hot dogs. This is the traditional 4th of July foods of choice.

Most of all, on the 4th there is another tradition found is in the form of a sky extravagance at sunset. You’ll see displayed,  fireworks lighting up the evening skies. Coating the horizon with a maze of colors and design. Designs and loud explosions that leads to many oohs and aahs. People watch with anticipation for each new explosion in the sky.

What was the purpose of the Declaration of Independence?

The purpose of the Colonists was that they wanted representation on how taxation took place. Furthermore, they felt they had the right to voice their opinions on how the taxes collected were being spent. Reasoning of the day was quite simple… if we pay our taxes then we want to have a  say on how they are managed. King George III of the United Kingdom wanted no part of this. King George III ordered his military leaders to stop the colonist from exercising any rights or freedom in any of his colonies. No matter what! American colonist while especially relevant, had to revert to guerilla warfare and disrupt the British soldiers. They did so by doing such things as dressing up like Mohawk Indians and throwing barrels of tea into Boston Harbor.

What made the Colonist so smart?

Our Founding Fathers, were aristocrats and while aristocrats some considered them as the highest class in certain societies, especially those holding hereditary titles or offices. The Founding Fathers were concerned about the forming of a democratic government where all men were equal. They also, owned land, making them landlords, and leaders of the Colony. These  Colonists leaders grew up around money and all the benefits money can bring. Likewise, they understood money and how to make it work for them and anyone they helped.

Believing at their core, that American Colonists had earned the right to be independent from the British Crown. They demanded the inalienable rights and freedoms of a sovereign Nation. While the Declaration of Independence provided the Colonists the legal rights of Independence for all, first it had to be signed.

What did King George III have to say?

Severing their ties with the British Crown was not an easy task. The final version of the Declaration of Independence legitimized their freedom which was needed to achieve their Sovereign Nation.

86 men adopted and signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776. By do so, they probablyu created a document making our great Country the leader of the Free World rather than to remain under the contol of King George III. Countries around the world have used our Declaration of Independence as their model to become another to legitimize their freedom. Seems like our freedoms and rights should spread across the planet don’t you think?

The first printing of the Declaration of Independence by a newspaper was on July 6th, in The Pennsylvania Evening Post.

Where can I see the Declaration of Independence?

Because people world-wide don’t have the protection of the Declaration of Independence, they find way to come to America so they can. Congress established Independence Day as a holiday in 1870.  In 1938 Congress reaffirmed it as a holiday for federal employees with full pay. This is only one of many reasons, why the 4th of July is one holiday everyone loves and enjoy. The thrill of lights flashing in the sky and military parades being the best out of most. Father’s Day a brief history on how it became a national holiday in America. Read all the trials and tribulation required for Fathers in order for them to be recognized as the hero they are to us.

After the success of Anna Jarvis with her advocating for Mother’s Day, Sonora Smart Dodd founded Father’s Day in 1910. Sonora Smart Dodd was born in Arkansas but later moved to Spokane, Washington where the first Father’s Day celebration took place on June 19, 1910.

Who was Ms. Sonora Dodd?

Ms. Sonora Dodd wanted to honor her father, a Civil War veteran, and single father of six children. His name was William Jackson Smart. Sonora Smart Dodd after hearing in church the story about Anna Jarvis and her work for Mothers of America became inspired. After the sermon Ms. Dodd went to her minster and told him of her intentions and requested his help. The minister couldn’t put a sermon together by June 5th, which was Sonora Dodd’s father birthday and instead suggested the third Sunday of the month of June.

Did it stick?

For the next two decades Father’s Day lost its steam and was in limbo until Sonora Dodd return to Spokane from Chicago and started promoting the celebration again. This time she sought help from the Father’s Day Council, founded by the New York Associated Men’s Wear Retailers and they conducted ad campaigns to promote Father’s Day despite the fact the newspapers made fun of them. They ran negative articles and cartoons in their papers making fun of a commercial Father’s Day.

The Father’s Day Council did not give up.  They ran campaigns using the newspaper ads and jokes to promote their holiday. The Father’s Day Council efforts didn’t work for Congress when brought before them in the teens, the 20’s and the 50’s!  Then in 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers. In 1972 Richard Nixon signed into law a permanent national holiday

Papa’s Pearls

In 2012 Diane Flynn Keith wrote a wonderful book about her father. It’s called Papa’s Pearls you can find it at her website here. You may want to read it or give a copy to your Father. Which, is a great story for any family that has a Papa who also shared his wisdom with his family.

Interestingly, in 1980 the Father’s Council wrote that “Father’s Day has become a ‘Second Christmas’ for all the men gift-oriented industries.” Now you know more about your Father. Now everyone go wish a Happy Father’s Day To All The Fathers who are out there.
