SUMMARY:4th of July - Redwood City's Agenda
DESCRIPTION:[caption id="attachment_4737" align="alignright" width="150"] 4th of July - Redwood City's Agenda[/caption] Contact: Malcolm Smith Public Communications Manager 650-780-7305 4th of July Parade, Festival in the Heart of Downtown Redwood City, Plus Fireworks at the Port! Redwood City, CA - The 75th annual 4th of July Parade by the Peninsula Celebration Association - a Family 4th - is the premier holiday parade in the region, and the entire community is invited to join the fun right in the heart of Downtown Redwood City! This beloved event brings thousands of excited spectators to see an incredible array of parade participants, floats, and festivities. The parade and festival is an integral part of the wonderful renaissance of Redwood City's Downtown core, with its great selection of restaurants, shops, theaters, and more. Plus, spectators will love the great 4th of July fireworks show launched from the Port of Redwood City. Get 4th of July details at  www.parade.org. The parade begins at 10 am, and the route starts on Marshall Street at the corner of Winslow Street, and continues on Marshall, Main Street, Middlefield Road, Winslow Street, Broadway, and onto Arguello Street where it ends near Alden Street (see map at www.parade.org). The 27th annual Independence Day Festival will cover several blocks in the heart of Downtown Redwood City, starting at 9 am (parts of Broadway, Hamilton, Middlefield, Jefferson, and in Courthouse Square). Filled with arts and crafts, food and beverages, kids' activities, and a whole lot of good old fashioned family fun, the festival is the place to be on the 4th of July! Plus the annual 4th of July carnival, coordinated by the Woodside Terrace Kiwanis Club, will be in the parking lot at Veterans Blvd. and Winslow Street. The 4th of July fireworks will be launched from the Port of Redwood City! This wonderful show is brought to the community by Redwood City with Presenting Sponsorship by Sims Metal Management, and generous support from RocketFuel, The Pauls Corporation, SARES REGIS, Informatica, San Mateo Credit Union, Lyngso, and the Port of Redwood City. The fireworks extravaganza will start at approximately 9:30 pm. The fireworks can be seen from areas where there is a clear view of the skies above the Port, and can also be seen from high points all over the Peninsula. For those coming to the Port, early arrival is highly recommended! This area is mostly private property with very limited public parking. The Port is providing a public viewing area along the waterfront off of Seaport Court. Once all of the very limited public parking spaces are filled, Seaport Boulevard will be closed to all vehicle traffic at the intersection of Seaport/Blomquist. Once the intersection has been closed, no vehicle access to the Port area will be available. This traffic control restriction could occur as early as 7:30 pm - so be sure to plan accordingly. Alcohol is prohibited on-site at the fireworks show, and personal fireworks are illegal at all times in Redwood City. Families can also enjoy a special Pancake Breakfast benefiting the Redwood City Firefighters Association at the Downtown Redwood City Fire Station #9, 755 Marshall Street, and join the 4th of July ParadeRun fundraising 5K run/walk, to benefit the Redwood City Education Foundation. Plus, the 4th of July "Go For It!" Car Show and Celebration takes place on the 2600 block of Broadway. SUMMARY:Belmont Point of Sale Mandatory Measure
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday, January 8 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers (One Twin Pines Lane), the  Belmont City Council will consider adopting mandatory sewer lateral inspections at transfer of title as part of its sewer maintenance program update. It known as Belmont Point of Sale Mandatory Measure If you are a homeowner or know someone who owns a home in Belmont this measure will cost you money if it passes. This is not what Belmont needs for the homeowners inside the city borders. SAMCAR members and their clients need to attend this vital meeting and express their opposition. This action will be a precedent, as in San Mateo County as there is NO LEGAL REQUIREMENT forcing the city to enact a Point-of-Sale (POS) measure. Further, the city claims this is being done for ‘consumer protection’ purposes. The consumer protection is better said..."We the City of Belmont don't want to be responsible for our jobs and instead want to pass our obligation on to the public." A new sewer lateral start at around $6,000.00 and goes higher in costs if the measure is passed. You will not have any say on whether you can negotiate it costs with the buyers. Point of sale means you the sellers must  fix any problems with the sewer lateral before clear Title to the property can transferred to the buyers. Mark you calendar to attend the Belmont City Council Meeting on January 8, 2013 at 7:00 PM. Your voice will make a difference by helping you as well as other homeowners in your community. This sewer lateral measure is no more than an added tax on the public when they sell their homes. Don't forget January 1, 2013 a new Federal Transfer Tax went into effect in the amount of 3.8% on any profit you make on your home. With all the taxes you will being paying over 6% in taxes before you receiving a single penny of profits. Your taxes on selling your home now exceeds the commission you will pay. The commission protects you while the taxes give you nothing. Don't allow the City of Belmont have a say on how you sell your biggest asset...your home.

He toured extensively with Otis Redding in the 60s. When on the West Coast, Frank works exclusively with internationally renowned, guitarist Anthony Paule and his band. In addition to Paule, members of his band include, Nancy Wright, sax; Paul Revelli, drums; Paul Olguin, bass; and Tony LuFrano keyboards.   http://www.frankbeymusic.com Saturday July 28th 11am-8pm Click for Hi-Res Courtesy of Dave Earl Dave Earl - 11am Multi instrumentalist Dave Earl began his musical career in 1977, playing the blues in Bay Area bars and clubs. Dave has played all of the major Northern California festivals-San Francisco Blues Festival, Sacramento Blues Festival, Marin Blues Festival, Monterey Blues Festival, and shared the stage with blues legends James Cotton, Francis Clay, Brownie Mcgee, Lowell Fulson, Eddie Taylor, Sonny Roads, John Mayall, Maria Muldaur, Del Ray, Lazy Lester and Percy Mayfield. He has also released 8 CD's of his own on his "Backtrack Records" label. At this year's festival he will be doing his "one man band thing", on guitar, harmonica and porchboard.   http://www.davearl.com Steve Gannon     - 12pm The London-born guitarist has been appearing at Dotha's, a side room of Everett and Jones Barbeque on Broadway, for the past eleven years, remaining a member of the Saturday-night house band even after its leader, harmonica player Birdlegg, relocated to Austin. His other long-term associations include six years in the house band at Eli's Mile High Club and fifteen as the leader of the Monday jam sessions at Blakes. "I show up sober and on time," he said when asked why he's been so in demand. "I do me best. I get along easy with a lot of people, even people that other people don't get along with." The modest musician might have added that, in addition to being a really nice guy, he's one heck of a blues guitar picker. Andy Santana   - 1pm Veteran West Coast musician Andy Santana is a smooth, dynamic vocalist and harmonica player with a sophisticated urban style. With thirty years of professional experience, he is also an accomplished songwriter/guitarist with an unusual gift for lyrics and is proficient at creating powerful melodies. Andy always surrounds himself with top west coast musicians. As a result, Andy's band has been chosen as the house/backup band for many Blues legends. He has toured and performed with artists as varied as Chicago's Jimmy Rogers, Luther Tucker, Willie Dixon, Freddy Robinson, New Orleans legend Earl King, C.P. Love, Booker T (of the M.G.s), The Gospel Hummingbirds, Bonnie Rait, Joe Lewis Walker, and many more!   http://www.myspace.com/andysantanaproductions Cold Feat - 2pm Gelb Music has been a RWC Blues Festival sponsor for seven straight years, and its continued support makes the weekly Club Fox Blues Jam possible. From the rare performances when members of the Gelb staff came together on stage, a musical bond formed.....and Cold Feat was born.  It features owner Kevin Jarvis, guitar; instructors Tony Baker, guitar and lap steel; Peter Booras, drums; and John Costalupes, bass; and from the Gelb Consignment Shop, Max Miller, vocals.  What you may not know is how these guys can tear it up when it comes time to "walk the talk."  They take blues to a whole new level with great song selection, tight arrangements and superb musicianship. Rounding out this versatile ensemble is more wonderful local talent, Dolly Rappaport, vocals and sax; and Nate Ginsberg, keyboards.   http://www.gelbmusic.com/t-coldfeat.aspx Click for Hi-Res Courtesy of Ron Hacker Ron Hacker - 3pm After teaching himself to play guitar, Ron met the late Yank Rachell, famous partner of Sleepy John Estes. Yank trained Ron on the finer points of Delta Blues, and they became life-long friends in the process. The actor Peter Coyote helped Ron get his first gig in San Francisco and it wasn't long before Ron put together the Hacksaws and was tearing it up in clubs all over the Bay Area. Since then, Ron has played every major festival in Northern California, including the Monterey Jazz Festival, the San Francisco Blues Festival and the Marin County Blues Festival. Ron has also toured extensively in Europe playing major festivals in Belgium, Holland, Denmark, and Norway and has put out five albums.http://www.ronhacker.com Gary Smith     - 4pm For three decades, San Jose harmonica player Gary Smith has been an influential figure in the San Francisco Bay Area Blues scene. His band was the first to grace the stage at the inaugural San Francisco Blues Festival way back in 1973. Long regarded as the Godfather of San Jose Blues Harmonica, he really demonstrates his harp playing prowess and Little Walter influenced tone on Blues For Mr. B. This CD features some incredible music which sounds new and exciting, while remaining respectful to the Blues tradition. http://www.messaround.com/album2.html Click for Hi-Res - Photo by Paul Schraub Photography Sista Monica - 5pm Monica Parker affectionately known as Sista Monica Parker "the lioness of the blues" recently gained national TV placement of her music on the Fox channel. Her original song "Show Me What You're Working With" was on the hit show "So You Think You Can Dance" finale show August 11, 2011. Choreographer - Ray Leeper selected the song from her 2005 CD release "Can't Keep a Good Woman Down." Melanie Moore was the winning dancer of SYTYCD 2011, and her dance to this song was the highlight of the evening. She won! In June 2011, Sista Monica was invited to perform with India Arie at the Uptown Theater in Napa, California after she returned from touring and performing in Paris, France, Bern, Switzerland, Monte Carlo and Greece. Just prior to leaving on her European tour, she and her world-class band performed with BB King at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, California. The Sista is a show stopper who lifts the spirit with her blues, soul and gospel music! http://www.sistamonica.com Click for Hi-Res   Courtesy of Blues Power Blues Power   with Harmonica Blow Off Grande Finale! - 6:15pm Blues Power founding members Applejack Walroth (singer, harmonica player and creative songwriter who has collaborated most famously with Boz Scaggs) and Ron Butkovich (guitarist) have known each other since about 1965. They spent their formative years in Chicago, and were very fortunate to come of age during a very exciting era in Chicago Blues history, when so many legendary and near legendary blues stars called Chicago home, and the blues permeated the air waves, records, and clubs. Their name has evolved from that time to the more 'universal' Blues Power. They are proud of the signature sound of harmonica lines integrated with the saxophones that Blues Power brings to the stage.     The festival will wind up with a Harmonica Blow Off Grande Finale, featuring Andy Santana, Gary Smith and AppleJack from Blues Power who will ascend the stage together during the last set.  A bit of fun "Cutting Heads", or matching licks on stage during a specific song, that will thrill the festival goers and blow out the end of the PAL Blues Festival in style! http://jaxpage.com/jxhome.html

SUMMARY:ZOPPE' An Italian Family Circus
DESCRIPTION:The Zoppe' Family Circus welcomes guests into the intimate 500-seat tent for a one-ring circus that honors the best history of the Old-World Italian tradition.  Starring Nino the clown, the circus is propelled by a central story (as opposed to individual acts) that feature acrobatic feats, equestrian showmenship, canine capers, clowning and plenty of audience participation.  Giovanni Zoppe', the sixth-generation circus performer who plays Nino, says the show aims higher than what passes for circuses these days.  "We try to touch every emotion during the show" he says.  "They'll laugh, they'll cry, and they'll feel for the characters.  It's more of an event than a show." SUMMARY:"Train Days" Returns - Los Altos
DESCRIPTION:Redwood City, CA 94062.  "Train Days" return to Los Altos, CA 94022. Cliff Keith a Redwood City real estate broker. “Train Days” returns to the Los Altos History Museum for two days of train‐filled fun celebrating the joy and wonder of trains and model railroading. Elaborate train track layouts, intricate scenery and scaled renditions of engines and whimsical theme cars, complete with steam, lights and sound, will speed along rails to delight visitors of all ages. A station featuring train‐themed activities for young children will be available throughout the two‐day event. Explore the gauges and scales associated with model railroading as members of local clubs showcase extensive layouts and answer questions on their electric and steam‐powered trains: Live Steamers from the Bay Area Garden Railway Society (G gauge) Diablo Pacific Short Line (G gauge) Roving Garden Railway from Bay Area Garden Railway Society (G gauge) Golden Gate Lionel Railroad Club (O gauge) San Martin Railway showcased in a vintage 1954 VW bus (O gauge) Peninsula NTrak (N gauge) – and more! Also on board will be presenters from California Operation Lifesaver, a non‐profit organization that provides education on proper rail safety. Trains are an integral part of America’s history, and Southern Pacific put Los Altos on the map in 1907 with its steam railway connecting Palo Alto to Los Gatos. Mirroring railroad development through the years, see the transition from early steam locomotives, to diesel engines up through today’s electric and high‐speed passenger trains—all scaled in miniature. Whether you’re new to model railroading or have been an enthusiast for years, you’ll see why it is one of the fastest growing and most beloved hobbies around the world.
